Most practices
treat acne. We
specialize in it.
The Dermatology Institute of Boston was built by a dermatologist who has spent her career researching acne, in a city full of practices that treat it as one condition among a hundred.
A decade later we’re still in Back Bay, still board- certified across every provider, and still building treatment plans around the specific cause of your acne rather than the first prescription on the list.

Why Seeing An Acne Specialist Matters
Acne is an complex interplay of oil production, blocked pores, inflammation and bacteria. These steps, known as the pathogenic factors of acne, are targeted by different prescriptions, lasers and chemical peels. Over-the-counter skin care may impact acne as well as the way the prescriptions work. We understand the science behind the acne and know how to choose a plan for you.
We look for a root cause
Every proven therapy is in this building
Prescription topicals and retinoids, spironolactone, oral contraceptives, antibiotics, isotretinoin and cortisone injections are some of the medical treatments that we offer. Chemical peels, and the AviClear laser are great options for patients who would rather use a natural drug-free treatment.
We treat scarring before it sets
We handle microneedling, lasers, subscision, and chemical peels when scarring needs treating directly.

Questions About the Practice
How we work, what we treat, and what to expect. Still unsure? Call us at 857.317.2057.

Most dermatology offices view acne as just one of dozens of things that they treat. While we still treat dermatologic conditions beyond acne, the bulk of what we do focuses on acne and acne scarring. We have made it our priority to be top-notch acneologists.
Yes. Our dermatologists are board-certified across the full range of medical and cosmetic dermatology, including skin cancer, eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. This site focuses on acne because it is the practice’s particular strength.
Most patients see visible improvement within six to twelve weeks, though it depends on severity and which treatment you’re on. Acne treatment is rarely instant, which is why we monitor progress and refine the plan rather than setting it and waiting.
It can, particularly with adult female hormonal acne. Part of building a plan is deciding what maintenance looks like once your skin is clear, so results hold rather than relapsing the moment treatment stops.
Yes. Microneedling, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, TCA CROSS, subcision and dermal fillers can improve depressed scars, pockmarks and post-acne discoloration long after the acne itself has cleared.
